Heparin sodium salt is a highly sulfated, water-soluble polysaccharide with strong anticoagulant properties. It acts as an indirect anticoagulant by enhancing the activity of antithrombin III, thereby inhibiting key coagulation factors such as thrombin and factor Xa. As a result, blood coagulation is effectively prevented or significantly slowed down.
